Why You’re Risking Bad Credit with Multiple Credit Cards
These days, credit card companies are swarming like flies to potential clients like you. Therefore most often than not, you find it hard to resist observing their offers. And once you’ve read their flyers or heard the agent talking, you’re sold. The end result? You get to own at least more than two credit cards.
Having multiple credit cards has its perks. First, you are able to purchase things that you want without worrying being declined. If one card does not work, you can simply present another one. Second, multiple credit cards mean different discounts and rewards. For example, one card can be used for petrol, one for dining out, one for travel and so forth. When you have a card for different activities, you have a greater chance of redeeming its discount or reward.
And third, using many cards will prevent you from using up a credit limit. This is because you can simply divide your purchases to different cards each time. And if you aren’t aware yet, a used up credit can cause you a bad credit rating.
However, as much as there are advantages, there are also some negative things about owning a gluttonous number of plastics. One of them is receiving multiple credit card bills. Different cards have different interest rates. They will also have different due dates and payment arrangements. Receiving all of them at once can cause you confusion if aren’t organized. You will also need to sort them out according to priority. You need to find out which one has to be paid first, which one comes last and so forth. Now imagine the hassles of it all. When you have your hands full with all these billing issues, you have the tendency to overlook things. You might overlook one deadline. You might also overlook a priority payment or increased fee. And in any case, it will cause delays in payment. Now this is where the other sad part comes in. Whenever you get late on debt payments, your score comes out negative. And when this keeps on going, soon enough you’ll get a bad credit score.
Getting a bad credit score can cost you tremendous privileges on finances. One of them is being declined on personal loans, car loans and home loans. When your credit history looks bad, lenders won’t trust you as much. So before you sign up for another plastic, ask yourself first. Is another card really necessary? Will it be worth the risk of bad credit?
